Set in wakulla county, shell point fl is a small coastal community around 45 minutes south of Tallahassee and is situated on Apalachee Bay. The beach in this natural community was originally a private beach. However local members of the shell point sailing club, who regularly use the beach as a cast off point for sailing excursions, feared the loss of the beach due to beachfront development. Members of the sailing club along with local activists wishing to preserve the beach for public access petitioned the State of Florida for a grant to purchase the beach for enjoyment by local residents and visitors alike. The beach was purchased by the community in 1995 and shell point beach is now managed by the county's parks and recreation department. Today the beach is a popular stopping point for visiting sailors exploring this part of the coastline, otherwise known as the "Forgotten Coast". We believe a vacation in shell point florida is a great choice for sailing enthusiasts and people looking for a quiet, natural florida.
